The softball team lost a doubleheader to Montclair State University on Thursday afternoon at MSU Softball Stadium in Montclair, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats dropped the opener by the score of 3-1. Andrea Tepfer had two hits for the Bearcats, who fell two games below the .500 mark at 17-19.

Tepfer also pitched a solid game against one the region’s perennial stronger teams in striking out seven batters and allowing three earned runs against their potent attack.

In the second contest, the Hawks (21-13) broke open the game early with four runs in their first at-bat to cruise to the 11-0 victory.

The Baruch offense was limited to three hits. Vianka Nieves finished a productive afternoon with two hits (three total today), including a double in the third inning.

The team scored their only run in their final at-bat of the mercy rule fifth inning.

Baruch had the bases loaded, but hit into a double play for two quick outs. The MSU first baseman on the same exact play fired the ball back across the diamond to nail a runner reaching third base, but before the third out tag was applied, the Baruch runner (Cristina Arce) that was initially on third base scored for the team’s only run.

At the present time, the team is scheduled to play their next game at some point next week in the CUNYAC playoffs. However, until the final conference games are completed this weekend, the team must wait to discover the final standings that will decide the play off schedule.

The team still hopes to possibly add a non-conference doubleheader to the schedule, prior to the start of playoffs, and if that happens, the information will be quickly announced.
