Baruch 72, John Jay 64; Win Streak at 10 Games

The men’s basketball team defeated John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 72-64, in a CUNYAC contest on Friday night.

The visiting Bearcats (11-1, 3-0 CUNYAC) struggled in the first half, but came back strong in the second half to stretch their winning streak to 10 games. In addition, they have now won 19 straight regular season games against CUNYAC opposition.

John Jay (1-13, 1-3) shot 50 percent (13-26) in the opening 20 minutes, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range to build a 33-26 halftime lead.

The second half was a different story as the Bearcats opened with an 11-2 run in the first six minutes to take the lead at 37-35. Mickey Abbatiello hit the 3-pointer for the lead that the Bearcats would not relinquish the rest of the game.

During the second half, John Jay shot only 37 percent (13-35) and 2-of-10 from 3-point range as they ran out of gas down the stretch.

Chris Beauchamp led Baruch this evening with 21 points, while George Kunkel collected another double-double with 12 points and rebounds each. Sean Loftus missed a double-double with nine points and 14 rebounds.

Vaughn Mason led John Jay with a big double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds.

The men's basketball team will continue their CUNYAC schedule on Monday night on the road with an 8:00 pm game at York College in Jamaica, New York.
