The men’s soccer team defeated the Cougars of Medgars Evers College, 2-0, in a CUNYAC home match on a windy Saturday afternoon in Maspeth, New York.

With the result, the Bearcats (10-4-1, 7-2 CUNYAC, 21 pts) officially clinch first place in the CUNYAC standings and earn the #1-seed in the CUNYAC Tournament that will get underway on Wednesday, October 27.

The top-seeded Bearcats will host #8-seed Medgar Evers in a quarterfinal home match on October 27 with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 pm at the Met Oval.

The Bearcats controlled all the action today and out-shot Medgar Evers (6-8-2, 2-5-2 CUNYAC, 8 pts) by a 29-8 margin.

Jacob Cohen opened the scoring at 11:58 off a through ball assist from Andreas Hansson for the early 1-0 lead.

Jonas Juozaitis scored the second goal of the match just 62 seconds later. Valiantsin Kirykovich fired a hard shot that was saved by the goalkeeper, but the ball rebounded to Juozaitas and he easily tapped in the goal for the 2-0 score.

The Bearcats consistently threatened to score again, but the match ended, 2-0.

Kirykovich (seven shots) and Igor Polisski (six shots) led the offensive attack, while goalkeeper Michael Murphy earned his sixth shutout of the regular season to help Baruch stretch their win streak to six consecutive matches.

The men's soccer team will finish their regular season schedule on Monday, October 18, with a non-conference road match at NYU-Poly (9-4-1). Kick off at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
