BOX SCORE

Stefan Cocea scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to give the Bearcats an exciting 4-3 comeback victory against York College on Saturday afternoon at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

The victory is the fourth straight for the Bearcats (8-4-1, 6-2, 18 pts CUNYAC) as they continue to strengthen their hold of first place in the latest conference standings.

The defending champion Cardinals (3-7-2, 2-3-2, 8pts CUNYAC) took the lead three times, but the Bearcats never lost their composure and rallied each time to tie the CUNYAC match to send it to overtime.

Cocea was the hero tying the match at 3-3 on a header at 83:50 off a free kick assist from Andreas Hansson. Cocea ended the exciting high-scoring match at 7:15 of the overtime period by heading in the winning goal off a corner kick assist by Hansson.

Valiantsin Kirykovich (23:30) and Jason Lopez (31:25) each scored first half unassisted goals to help Baruch tie York at halftime by the score of 2-2.

Overall, Baruch led in the shot category (24-10) of a match that featured plenty of attacking soccer from both teams (offsides: Baruch 9, York 12).

Menard Millus led the visiting Cardinals with two goals scored in the afternoon match.

The Bearcats will quickly resume action on Sunday morning, October 10, with a non-conference road match against Cooper Union. Kick off at Randall’s Island (Field #50) is scheduled for 9:00 am.
