The men’s basketball team lost a tough one point (68-67) contest to the Valiants of Manhattanville College on Thursday evening in Purchase, New York.

The visiting Bearcats (5-3) trailed throughout the contest and were behind by as much as nine points (56-47) with 10:57 left in regulation.

However, they slowly battled back and took their only lead of the evening on a Chris Beauchamp 3-pointer with 1:33 remaining for a 67-66 advantage.

Manhattanville (7-1) had possession for the last shot and Trevoy Pointer connected on the winning jumper with 3.1 seconds left to give the home team the victory in a meeting between CUNYAC and Freedom Conference teams.

Overall, the visiting Bearcats shot 37 percent (22-60), while the Valiants shot 49 percent (27-55).

Baruch (nine steals) scored 18 points off of 17 Manhattanville turnovers to prevent the home team from running away with the contest.

Beauchamp led the Bearcats with 19 points and six rebounds, while Lionel Hilaire scored 16 points and dished out four assists.

Sean Loftus missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Calvin Jurewicz-Johnson recorded eight points, four rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Peter Mehmel led the Valiants with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Pointer finished the game with 11 points and three assists.

The men’s basketball team will return to action on Sunday, December 12, with a non-conference battle against Yeshiva University from the Skyline Conference. Tip off at the Coaches vs Cancer Classic hosted by Lehman College in the Bronx is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
