The Bearcats and the Rangers of Drew University split a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in Madison, New Jersey.

The Bearcats won the opener, 3-1, as Andrea Tepfer pitched a complete game (7IP, 5H, 1ER, 4K) to record her 11th pitching win of the regular season.

Drew scored first with a run in their first-at-bat, but the visiting Bearcats rallied slowly with two runs in the fourth and a run in the seventh inning.

Nicole Flint (RBI single) and Elizabeth Santos (walk RBI) helped get the scoring started in the fourth, while Andrea Feeney hit an RBI single to score Santos in the seventh inning for the opening game victory.

In the second game, the Bearcats scored in their first at-bat with Tepfer hitting an RBI single to score Melissa Pena.

Drew scored the next four runs to lead 4-1, but the Bearcats attempted a rally in their final at-bat of the seventh inning. Melanie Pellegrino smacked an RBI double to score Ashley Brandow to cut the deficit to 4-2, but could not score any more runs as Drew’s pitching ended the game to salvage a doubleheader split on their home campus field.

The softball team will return to action on Saturday, April 17, with a CUNYAC road doubleheader at the College of Staten Island. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
