The softball team ended a losing streak and created a four-game win streak by winning all four of the CUNYAC home games on Monday at the College of Staten Island softball complex.

The Bearcats (8-12, 4-0 CUNYAC) were initially scheduled to play Lehman (March 29) and John Jay (March 30) last week, but due to rain, the two conference doubleheaders were postponed and rescheduled to Monday to play four games on the final day of spring break.

The Bearcats defeated John Jay, 10-2, in the opening game, and scored three runs in their final at-bat of the second game to pull out an exciting 8-7 victory to sweep the Bloodhounds (5-3, 3-3 CUNYAC).

Michele Runko was the hero in the comeback of the second game by hitting a double to score Melanie Pellegrino for the 8-7 final score. Pellegrino hit a single for two RBI to tie the game at 7-7 during her at-bat. Melissa Pena finished batting 3-for-4, with an RBI and two runs scored.

In the second doubleheader, the Bearcats also swept the Lightning of Lehman College (2-11, 0-4 CUNYAC) by the scores of 12-0 and 12-4.

Andrea Tepfer, who earned three of the four team wins on the mound today, pitched a five inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the opening game 12-0 shutout. Ashley Brandow led the Bearcats at the plate by batting 2-for-3, with two runs scored.

In the second game against Lehman and final game of the busy day in Staten Island, the Bearcats scored six runs in the first inning to cruise to the 12-4 victory. Nicola De Vine earned the pitching victory by going 4.1 innings with three earned runs and eight total strikeouts. Idelissa Lluveres batted a perfect 3-for-3, with four total RBI and three runs scored.

The softball team will return to action on Tuesday, April 6, with a 3:00 pm non-conference doubleheader at SUNY-Farmingdale.
