Softball Team Splits Doubleheader Against New Jersey City (Win 5-0, Lose 9-5)

The softball team went on to split a doubleheader against the Gothic Nights of New Jersey City University on Thursday in Jersey City, New Jersey.

With the results, the Bearcats are 9-15 overall, while the Gothic Knights from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) are an even 9-9 overall.

Andrea Tepfer pitched a 5-hit shutout in the opening victory, while Ashley Brandow batted 2-for-4, with a double and two RBI. Regina Cardinale batted a perfect 2-for-2, and also scored two runs.

The visiting Bearcats led 3-0 after two innings of play and finished the victory with two more runs in the fourth inning for the 5-0 score line.

In the second game, New Jersey City built a 9-2 lead after three innings and held on to the 9-5 home victory to salvage a split.

The Bearcats were limited to five total hits with Melanie Pellegrino hitting a double, while Ashley Brandow, Idelissa Lluveres, Melissa Mejia and Michele Runko all reached base with singles in the loss.

The softball team will return to action on Saturday, April 10, with a CUNYAC home doubleheader against rival Hunter College. First pitch at the College of Staten Island softball complex is scheduled for Noon.
