CUNYAC Semifinals: Staten Island 5, Baruch 2

The men’s tennis team lost to the Dolphins from the College of Staten Island, 5-2, in a CUNYAC Tournament semifinal match that ended late on Tuesday night at the U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens.

With the result, the men’s tennis team streak of six consecutive tournament championships comes to an end. Staten Island and Hunter will battle on Thursday night, May 6, for the championship at the U.S. National Tennis Center.

The #1 seed Dolphins started by winning all three doubles to jump out to the 3-0 advantage against the #4 seed Bearcats. Staten Island won the first and third doubles via tie-breakers.

In the singles competition, Staten Island won at #1 singles and eventually clinched the victory by winning at second singles for the 5-2 team score.

Baruch was putting together a major rally by winning at fourth and sixth singles, but the match was halted after Staten Island earned their fifth point by winning at second singles.
