BOX SCORE

The men’s soccer team lost a 4-2 contest to the Lightning of Lehman College in the CUNYAC opening match of the season for both teams on Wednesday evening in the Bronx.

Lehman (2-3, 1-0 CUNYAC) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after 21 minutes on goals scored by Essenam Agouze and Gilherme Silva.

The Lightning would enter the halftime intermission with the 2-0 lead, but the visiting Bearcats (2-3-1, 0-1 CUNYAC) came out attacking at the start of the second half and were able to finally score in the 60th minute.

Senior Jason Lopez fired a well placed cross into the box that met Stefan Cocea for the header to score the goal and cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Bearcats kept pressuring for the tying goal, but Lehman would be the team to score next as Geovanny Arredonde scored an insurance goal on a corner kick with 15 minutes left for the 3-1 lead. They put the match out of reach with their fourth goal eight minutes later on an unassisted strike by Babatunde Oyetunji.

Ibek Abdrahmanov scored Baruch’s second goal unassisted only a few seconds from the final whistle as the match ended with the 4-2 score line.

Overall, the Bearcats led in the shot category with a 19-13 advantage and kept the Lehman goalkeeper busy all evening with eight total saves.

The men’s soccer team will return to action on Sunday, September 19, with a 12:00 pm CUNYAC road match at the College of Staten Island Dolphins.
