Farmingdale State Use Strong Second-Half Shooting to Knock Off Bearcats, 66-57

Box Score The Rams of Farmingdale State shot 51.6 percent in the second half to defeat the visiting Bearcats, 66-57, in a non-conference contest played on Tuesday night in Farmingdale, New York.

The Bearcats fell behind early in the contest, 13-2, but slowly chipped away at the deficit to enter halftime trailing by only two points (27-25).

During the second half,
Justin Giryluk hit a layup with 16:45 left to give the Bearcats a one point lead (30-29), but the Rams scored the next seven points to go back on to top, 36-30, with 14:12 left.

The Bearcats rallied with back-to-back jumpers by
Chris Beauchamp to get as close as one point again, 41-40, with 9:53 left, but the Rams scored the next seven points again and held the lead the rest of the way to record their second victory of the regular season.

Nate Young led the visiting Bearcats with a double-double of 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots, while Beauchamp finished with 13 points (4-4 FT).

AJ Matthews (11-24 fg), a seven-footer from Brooklyn, led the Rams with a double-double of 25 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots to lead his team that plays in the Skyline Conference.  

The men’s basketball team will return to action on Saturday, November 26, as they will travel to Middletown, Connecticut, to take on Wesleyan University from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in a non-conference game.

SCHEDULING NOTE: Please be advised the time of the home game against SUNY College at Purchase on Saturday, December 10, will now start at 2:00 pm, instead of 1:00 pm. The annual men's basketball alumni game will take place at 12:30 pm that day.
