The softball team split their non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against SUNY-Old Westbury on Long Island.

The visiting Bearcats won the first contest, 3-2, behind solid pitching from
Andrea Tepfer and two hits each by Melanie Pellegrino and Ashley Brandow.

Tepfer recorded a complete game victory with seven innings pitched and five total strikeouts. She allowed two runs early, but shut down Old Westbury the rest of the game on a breezy afternoon in Long Island.

The visiting Bearcats scored two runs in the first inning of play.
Idelissa Lluveres hit a single down the right field line to score Julia Giustiniani with the first run, while Nicole Flint smacked an RBI single to right field to score Lluveres for the second run of the inning.

The game was tied at 2-all after four innings of play but the Bearcats scored their third and eventual winning run in the top half of the fifth inning. Pellegrino scored from third base on a throwing error by the catcher to help Baruch earn their first victory of the young regular season schedule.

In the second game, Flint threw a solid pitching performance (6IP, 1ER, 4K), but suffered the loss as the team was shutout, 1-0.

Old Westbury from the Skyline Conference limited Baruch to only one single by Flint in the second inning.

The softball team will return to action on Thursday, March 24, with a 4:00 pm non-conference doubleheader at Rutgers-Newark in Newark, New Jersey.
