Softball Team Drops Doubleheader to NJAC Leader Montclair State (6-1, 10-2)

The softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Montclair State University on a sunny and warm Thursday afternoon in Montclair, New Jersey.

The Red Hawks (18-4, 6-0 NJAC), who are currently in first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), won with scores of 6-1 and 10-2 to end Baruch’s (8-12, 5-1 CUNYAC) four-game winning streak.

In the opening game, Montclair State scored in the first inning on a solo home run by Dana Amato. They scored three times in the third with two runs coming home on a fielding error and the third on an RBI single for a 4-0 advantage.

The visiting Bearcats scored their only run in the fourth inning on an RBI double by
Michele Runko to bring home Carmen Pagan-Colon for a 4-1 score.

The Red Hawks scored twice in the sixth inning on a pair of RBI singles and kept the Bearcats scoreless in their final at-bat to record the 6-1 victory.

Overall, the Bearcats (one error) totaled one run via three hits with three runners left on base, while the Red Hawks (one error) scored six runs via 10 hits with six runners left on base. 

In the second game, the Bearcats scored first in the second inning when Runko smacked another RBI double to score
Olivia Auman for the early 1-0 advantage.

Montclair State took over the lead with three runs in the second and another in the third for a 4-1 lead.

Baruch responded with their second run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by
Nicole Flint to bring home Idelissa Lluveres to cut the score to 4-2.

The Red Hawks took control and scored the next six runs to record the 10-2 victory.

Overall, the Bearcats (no errors) totaled two runs on six hits with three runners left on base, while Montclair State (one error) totaled 10 runs on 15 hits with 10 runners left on base.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, April 16, with a 12:00 pm CUNYAC Doubleheader against the College of Staten Island. Prior to the first game, the team will honor their seniors.
