BOX SCORE

Ashley Brandow smacked the winning RBI double and Nicole Flint pitched another complete game to lead the softball team to an important 4-3 CUNYAC victory over the College of Staten Island (CSI) in a makeup game played on Thursday afternoon in Staten Island, New York.

The Bearcats trailed all afternoon but rallied for the comeback victory in the team’s final at-bat to improve their season record to 11-13 overall and 8-2 in CUNYAC. The Dolphins of CSI fall to 16-10 on the season and 7-1 in CUNYAC.

CSI was able to get on the scoreboard first with a run in each of the second and third innings for an early 2-0 advantage, but the Bearcats tied the game in the fourth inning on a double for two RBI by
Carmen Pagan-Colon to score Idelissa Lluveres and pinch runner Kimberly Hernandez for the 2-2 tie.

Staten Island scored a run in the fifth inning for a 3-2 lead, but the Bearcats tied it again in their next at-bat on an RBI double by Lluveres to score
Elizabeth Santos.

The two teams would not score again until the bottom of the seventh inning when Brandow smacked the first pitch to left/center field for a double that enabled Santos to score the winning run all the way from first base for the exciting 4-3 finish.

Flint recorded her eighth win of the season with a complete game (
7 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 1 K, 1 BB), while six different players had at least one hit. Lluveres finished batting 2-for-3.

Staten Island won the first game (11-1) between these two teams on Saturday, April 16, but the second game of the doubleheader was postponed by rain. As a result, the two teams played the makeup game this afternoon at the CSI Softball Complex.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 22, with a 3:00 pm non-conference doubleheader against Farmingdale State on Long Island. To follow the action via Live Stats,
