The softball team began their CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) schedule on Saturday afternoon by splitting a road doubleheader against their rival Hunter College at Randall's Island.

In the first game, the visiting Bearcats posted a 4-3 victory behind solid pitching from
Nicole Flint and timely hitting from players such as Elizabeth Santos, Melanie Pellegrino and Carmen Pagan-Colon .

The team was trailing early 1-0, but scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Santos smacked an RBI double to score pinch runner
Cristina Arce and Santos would eventually come around to score on an RBI triple by Pellegrino.

Hunter tied the rivalry game at 2-2 in their bottom half of the fifth inning, but the Baruch bats came alive again in the sixth inning.

Ashley Brandow hit a single and Idelissa Lluveres reached base on a fielding error for runners on second and third base. Pagan-Colon had another important hit this season and smacked a single to left field for two RBI to scored Brandow and Lluveres for a 4-2 score.

Hunter was able to score a run in the sixth inning to trail 4-3, but Flint shut them down 1-2-3 in the seventh inning to record the important first game victory.

In the second game, the Hunter offense exploded for nine runs and limited the visiting Bearcats to only one run in the third inning for a 9-1 victory

Olivia Auman struck out but the ball hit the dirt, and the Hunter catcher threw the ball to first base. However, Brandow on the same play ran home to score as the ball was thrown to first base for the only Baruch score of the second game.

The softball team will return to action on Sunday, April 10, with two CUNYAC doubleheaders at the College of Staten Island softball complex.

The team will play Brooklyn College in the newly revised time of 10:30 am, followed by the players and graduating seniors from last year’s team each receiving their 2010 championship rings in a special ceremony to immediately follow the conclusion of the first doubleheader.

The team will then play City Tech in a second doubleheader scheduled to start at the estimated time of 2:15 pm (depends on length of first doubleheader).
