Men's Soccer Fall to Potsdam in Exciting High-Scoring Match (4-3)

The men’s soccer team lost by the score of 4-3 to SUNY-Potsdam in a first round match of the Lasell Kick-Off Classic played on Saturday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts.

The Bearcats will next play in the third place match tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm against Wheelock. The tournament host Lasell routed Wheelock, 16-0, to advance to the 2:30 pm championship against SUNY-Potsdam.

The Bearcats began the entertaining match in a positive way with Kyle Keague (Garden City, NY) scoring the opening goal at 4:42 off an assist from Alvaro Velazquez (New Rochelle, NY).

Potsdam from the SUNY Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tied the match at 11:26 and both teams stay tied until Baruch took their second lead (2-1) at 28:15 on an unassisted strike by Akil George (Arima, Trinidad & Tobago).

Potsdam tied (2-2) the match again at 30:59, and took a lead with their third goal scored at 58:19.

The Bearcats never lost their composure and Keague scored his second goal of the match at 76:44 on an assist from Vincent Cruz (Torrington, Connecticut) for a 3-3 tie.

Unfortunately, Potsdam quickly found the back of the net again at 78:59 to take the lead and hold on to the victory in their season opener. Stephen Auyer (Oswego, NY) led Potsdam by scoring two goals.

Goalkeeper Michael Murphy (Astoria, NY) finished with 13 saves and Keague scored his two goals on four total shots.

Overall, Potsdam had a 24-11 advantage in shots and both teams finished a well-played match with only seven fouls each.
