Brooklyn Defeats Bearcats Behind Big Second Half Run (64-48)

The Bulldogs of Brooklyn College went on a 17-0 run late in the second half to defeat the Baruch College Bearcats, 64-48, in a CUNYAC contest played on Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, New York.

The two teams played a competitive first half with Brooklyn leading by one point (25-24) at halftime. The tight action continued into the second half and the Bearcats managed to build a brief three-point lead (39-36) on a pair of free throws by
Kiara Johnson with 11:07 left.

However, the Bulldogs took control the rest of the game with 17 consecutive points for a 53-39 advantage with 4:36 left. That run proved the major difference to keep the Bulldogs undefeated in CUNYAC (6-0), while the Bearcats suffered their second conference loss for a 4-2 record. The last time the Bearcats had two losses in CUNYAC was during the 2004-05 season.

The Bulldogs shot 48.4 percent (15-31) from the field in the second half and an important 7-of-13 from 3-point range during the entire game. They also out-scored the Bearcats 32-18 in the paint.

The Bearcats won the rebounding battle (48-42), but allowed 25 points by the Bulldogs off 27 turnovers committed.

Sheridan Taylor had a career day for the Bearcats with a double-double of 10 points, 16 rebounds and three assists. Jessica Duleba scored 14 points and Kiara Johnson finished with 13 points and two steals. Shamika Boyce totaled 10 rebounds off the bench.
 
Charnelle St. Laurent led the Bulldogs with 26 points (9-14 fg), including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Justine O'Callahan missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.  

The women's basketball team return to action on Monday, January 23, with a 7:00 pm non-conference home contest in the ARC Arena against Richard Stockton College from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
