Strong Second Half Propels Bearcats Past John Jay, Team 65-2 in Last 67 CUNYAC Games

The women’s basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 88-62, in a CUNYAC road contest played on Wednesday night in the Upper West Side of New York City.

With tonight's result, the Bearcats improve their record to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC. They also now own an impressive record of 65-2 in their last 67 regular season CUNYAC games.

The visiting Bearcats struggled early in the contest and trailed by 10 points (26-16) with 9:35 left in the first half. However, they bounced back to end the first half with a 24-10 run to take a 40-36 advantage into halftime.

The Bearcats shot 51.5 percent (17-33) in that first half, but the Bloodhounds connected on 4-of-7 three-pointers to keep the game highly competitive.

In the second half, the Bearcats defense came alive as they jumped out to a 59-45 advantage with 11:01 left. The Bloodhounds battled back to get as close as 68-57 with 6:45 remaining, but the Bearcats ended the game with a 20-5 run to walk off with the 88-62 victory.


Jessica Duleba led the Bearcats with 16 points and two steals. Francess Henry scored a career-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

Vikki DeTata (six assists) and Sheridan Taylor (7 rebounds) scored 11 points each. Alicea Ulmer came off the bench to score a career-high nine points and grab four rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

Tyana Hale led John Jay with 22 points and two steals. Jamecia Forsythe recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.


The women’s basketball team will return to action on Friday, January 6, with a 5:00 pm CUNYAC road contest at rival Hunter College. The Bearcats have won their last 12 games (tournament & regular season) against Hunter by an average of 24.1 points.
