10/24/2012 6:33:00 PM

Box Score

Akil George
assisted on all three goals to lead the Baruch College Bearcats to a 3-1 CUNYAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal victory over York College on Wednesday afternoon at the soccer field on the campus of Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York.

The Bearcats advance to play the College of Staten Island Dolphins in a semifinal match scheduled for Saturday, October 27, at 5:00 pm, at Field #10 on Randall’s Island near Icahn Stadium.

Victor Tlepshev, playing on his former home field at Kingsborough after a stellar community college career that included winning the 2010 CUNYAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, began the scoring at 26:05 after receiving a well-placed through ball assist from George.

Oren Kozlowski increased the lead to 2-0 five minutes later on another through-ball assist from George that enabled the freshman from Tulsa, Oklahoma to beat the goalkeeper for the easy 2-0 score.

York scored on a penalty kick with 25 minutes remaining to cut the advantage to 2-1. That goal seemed to motivate the team as they dominated possession and shot opportunities the rest of the match.

However, the Bearcats put the match out of reach with
Kyle Keague scoring a goal with four minutes left off George’s third assist of the afternoon. George fired a free kick into the box that Keague headed home for the goal to finally defeat the visiting Cardinals.

“York deserves lots of credit for playing a great match, especially during the second half,” said Associate Head Coach Dima Kamenshchik. “The playoffs are never easy and today that was definitely the case. We managed to win and now we need to get ready for another tough match on Saturday.”
