Old Westbury State 3, Baruch 0 BOX SCORE

The softball team went on to split a non-conference doubleheader to the State University of New York at Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon on Long Island.

The Bearcats lost the opening contest, 3-0, but came back to win the second contest by the score of 2-0 in exciting pitching duels all afternoon.

In the first game, Old Westbury scored a run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth inning to record the 3-0 shutout. Both teams had four hits and left six runners on base.

Chelsea DeGuzman led the visiting Bearcats with two singles, while Regina Cardinale and Toniann Donde had a single each. Deena Farrell suffers the tough pitching loss despite allowing only four hits and one earned run.

In the second game, the Bearcats came out on top behind a strong pitching performance from
Nicole Flint and an 11-hit attack by the team.

They scored the two runs in the fifth inning. Flint and
Courtney White each smacked a single to get runners on first and second base with one out. Chrystal Sanchez then hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third base.

Melanie Pellegrino stepped up to the plate and singled to score White, and would easily advance to second base on the same play on a fielding error that also helped score Flint for the 2-0 score.

The two runs were enough as Flint pitched a shutout by allowing only four hits and recording seven strikeouts to defeat a non-conference opponent from the Skyline Conference.

Melanie Pellegrino,
Carmen Pagan-Colon and Toniann Donde finished with two hits each in the victory.

The softball team will return to action on Thursday, March 22, with a 3:00 pm non-conference doubleheader at New Jersey City University from the
New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). You can follow all the action live from the comfort of your computer via the live stats page.
