Bearcats Split CUNYAC Doubleheader vs Brooklyn (Win 5-1, Lose 7-2)

The softball team and the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College split a CUNYAC doubleheader on a Spring Break Tuesday morning in Brooklyn, New York.

The Bearcats won the opener 5-1, but lost the second 7-2. With the result, the Bearcats are 9-13 overall and 5-1 in CUNYAC, while Brooklyn is 10-10 overall and 4-4 in the CUNYAC.

In the first game,
Nicole Flint earned her seventh win of the season by pitching a complete game of seven innings, seven hits allowed, one earned run and six strikeouts. At the plate, she was busy again with an RBI single and sacrifice fly RBI.

Melanie Pellegrino batted a perfect 3-for-3, with three singles and two stolen bases. Olivia Auman smacked her third homer of the season to lead off the fourth inning. Toniann Donde finished batting 2-for-3.

In the second game, the Bulldogs jumped to a 4-0 lead en route to a 7-2 victory. They scored four runs in the fourth inning, but the Bearcats scored twice in the fifth to cut the score to 4-2. The Bulldogs scored three more runs in the sixth inning and kept the Bearcats scoreless in their final at-bat to split the doubleheader.

Melanie Pellegrino smacked her second homer of the season, a two run homer in the fifth inning, to account for the two Baruch runs.
Holly Isenberg batted 2-for-3 to lead the team at the plate.

The softball team will continue their busy Spring Break schedule on Wednesday, April 11, with a 12:00 pm CUNYAC home doubleheader against Lehman College. Please note this doubleheader will be played at Lehman with Baruch as the home team.
