The softball team swept an important CUNYAC doubleheader from rival Hunter College as part of Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the softball field of Lehman College in the Bronx.

The Bearcats won with scores of 4-3 and 6-1 to raise their record to 12-16 overall and 8-2 in the CUNYAC, while the visiting Hawks drop to 11-19 overall and 7-3 in the CUNYAC.

In the opening game, the Hawks led off the first inning with a home run and scored another run in the fifth inning to lead 2-0. The bats of the Bearcats were quiet up until the time of their final at-bat of the seventh inning.

The Bearcats tied the game as
Toniann Donde smacked an RBI single to score Chelsea DeGuzman, while Courtney White hit an RBI single to score pinch runner Kimberly Hernandez for a 2-2 score.

The two teams entered extra innings and the Hawks struck first in the top of the eighth by scoring a run to lead 3-2. The Bearcats never lost their composure and rallied to win by scoring two runs on a Hunter fielding error that enabled
Holly Isenberg and Regina Cardinale to score for the exciting walk off victory.

In the second game, the Bearcats led 3-0 after four innings and added three more in the sixth inning to take complete control for the 6-1 victory.

Nicole Flint, who also pitched the team to victory in the first game with 10 strikeouts, had the same control in the second game by allowing only four hits, one earned run and four strikeouts to enable the Bearcats to sweep the doubleheader.

Carmen Pagan-Colon batted 2-of-3, Regina Cardinale scored two runs, Melanie Pellegrino had two RBI, and Toniann Donde hit a homer in the third inning to help the overall team effort in the victory.

Prior to the start of the game, the team honored seniors Carmen Pagan-Colon,
Chrystal Sanchez, Kimberly Hernandez and Melanie Pellegrino for their years of hard work and service to the team.

The softball team will return to action on Tuesday, April 17, with a 3:00 pm non-conference road doubleheader at NYU-Poly.
