Softball Sweeps DH Against John Jay (Win 10-3, 5-4 in 8 inn.), Flint, Farrell Earn Pitching Wins

The softball team defeated John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a CUNYAC home doubleheader played on Friday afternoon at Field #12 on Randall’s Island.

The Bearcats won 10-3 and 5-4 in eight innings to raise their record to 8-10 overall and 4-0 in the CUNYAC, while the visiting Bloodhounds drop to 4-14 overall and 0-4 in the CUNYAC.

In the first game,
Nicole Flint earned the complete game pitching victory with three hits allowed, no earned runs and 10 strikeouts. At the plate, she batted 2-for-3 with a double for two RBI.

The Bearcats pounded out 12 total hits for 10 runs. They jumped out early with a 7-0 lead after three innings of play en route to the home victory. 
Melanie Pellegrino (2-4, 1 Run), Toniann Donde (2-4, 1 RBI, 1 Run) and Olivia Auman (2-4, 1 RBI, 1 Run) had two hits each. Regina Cardinale and Chrystal Sanchez scored two runs each.

In the second game, which went into extra innings, the Bearcats squeezed out a 5-4 victory. Olivia Auman had the game-winning hit with an RBI single to score
Carmen Pagan-Colon for the walk-off victory. Auman finished batting 2-for-4 and scored a run in the first inning.

Deena Farrell recorded her first intercollegiate win by going the distance with eight innings pitched, nine hits allowed, three earned runs and five total strikeouts.

Melanie Pellegrino scored two runs, while Carmen Pagan-Colon, Toniann Donde, and
Megan Ruiz had one RBI each to help keep the Bearcats undefeated in CUNYAC.

The softball team will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 7, with a 12:00 pm non-conference doubleheader at St. Joseph’s College of Patchogue on Long Island.
