The men’s tennis team defeated the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, 5-0, in a first round NCAA contest played on Friday afternoon on the campus of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

The Bearcats (16-2) won all three doubles and two singles to record their second-ever team victory in the NCAA Tournament. The previous victory in the NCAA was on May 4, 2007, as they defeated Alvernia by the score of 5-4.

Today’s victory was also the 16th of the season, which sets the all-time team record for most wins in a season.

The Bearcats advance to the second round on Saturday morning to play national power and #10-ranked Bowdoin College from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The match at Bowdoin’s Pickard Courts is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.

Christopher Jenkins led the visiting Bearcats with a quick singles victory at the third flight, 6-0, 6-4. He combined with Stephan Muller for an 8-3 victory at second doubles. Joe Laskowski, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, won at sixth singles (6-3, 6-2) and combined with Phillip Bleustein at third doubles for an 8-3 win.
