BOX SCORE

The Baruch College Bearcats smacked three homers to defeat the Bloodhounds of John Jay College, 9-1, in a CUNYAC/Applebee’s Championship Tournament playoff game on Wednesday afternoon at Field #36 on Randall’s Island.

With the result, the Bearcats advance to the double-elimination rounds that will begin on Friday at the College of Staten Island softball complex. The Bearcats will open play with a 2:00 pm contest against rival Hunter College. For a complete schedule, please scroll to the bottom of this page.

"We got behind early, but the players battled back with timely hitting to take over the lead," said Head Coach Jose Negroni. "We also did not commit any errors and
Nicole Flint pitched a one hitter to get us the important win."

John Jay began the playoff by scoring a run during their first at-bat as Crystal Johnson hit a RBI double to score Kalyssa Daley.

The Bearcats quickly battled back in the bottom of the first with
Olivia Auman blasting a three run homer, her fifth of the season, over the left field fence to score Carmen Pagan-Colon and Toniann Donde.

They added another blast in the third inning as
Courtney White smacked a three run homer, her second of the season, over the right field fence to score pinch runner Kimberly Hernandez and Regina Cardinale for the 6-1 lead.

Toniann Donde hit a school record sixth homer of the season over the center field fence in the fourth inning for the 7-1 lead. Donde broke the record previously held by Melissa Pena, who hit five homers during each of the 2008 and 2010 seasons. Olivia Auman joins Pena with the second best homer mark in team history.

Donde ended the playoff in the bottom of the fifth with a two run double to score
Melanie Pellegrino and Regina Cardinale for the walk off victory in mercy rule five innings.

Nicole Flint pitched a one hitter with one earned run and six strikeouts behind a defense that did not commit any errors to complete the victory.
