The men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Fitchburg State University in the consolation match of the Roger Williams/Turfer Classic played on Sunday morning in Bristol, Rhode Island.
The Bearcats started the match in the best possible fashion with Oren Kozlowski, a freshman from Tulsa, Oklahoma, scoring an unassisted goal only two minutes and 21 seconds into the contest for the 1-0 lead. Kozlowski took a long pass and attacked down the left side beating the goalkeeper with a shot into the upper part of the goal.
Fitchburg State, a member of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, tied the match on a penalty kick goal at 29:11. They scored again at 51:26 for a 2-1 advantage.
Kozlowski scored his third goal of the season and second of the match at 59:21. Arlind Stafaj sent a cross into the box that Kozlowski connected on and fired low past the goalkeeper for the tie.
The Bearcats out-shot Fitchburg State, 14-7, during the second half, but could not score the third goal. The two teams played two scoreless overtime periods to finish with a 2-2 draw.
Kozlowski and Christopher Peralta were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, September 8, as they will compete in the New Jersey City Liberty Cup in Jersey City, New Jersey. The team will play FDU-Florham from the Freedom Conference in an opening round match scheduled to start at 1:00 pm at the New Jersey City University Soccer Complex.
