Men's Tennis Take Over First Place in CUNYAC, Defeat Staten Island (7-2)

The men's tennis team defeated the Dolphins from the College of Staten Island, 7-2, in a rescheduled CUNYAC contest played on Monday afternoon in Staten Island, New York.

The two teams were initially scheduled to play on Friday, April 12, but it was postponed by rain.

The Bearcats (7-4, 5-0 CUNYAC) began in the best possible way by sweeping all three doubles for the 3-0 lead.


Danil Ovechkin and Guy Goren won at first doubles, 8-4. Phillip Bleustein and David Garzon won easily at third doubles, 8-0.

The Bearcats were victorious in winning four of the six singles, but many of the encounters were very difficult. Goren won at third singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), while Bleustein won a tough encounter at fourth singles 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.

The men's tennis team will continue their CUNYAC schedule on Tuesday, April 16 with a 6:00 pm CUNYAC road contest against CCNY. The match will be played at the Billie Jean King U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens.
