Softball Splits Doubleheader Against St. Joseph's

The softball team played a doubleheader against the Eagles from St. Joseph’s College of Patchogue on Tuesday in Patchogue, New York (Long Island).

The Bearcats lost the first game, 5-2, but bounced back to win the second, 11-8, to even their season record at 10-10.

In the first game, the Bearcats scored a run in each of the first and third innings.
Toniann Donde had an RBI double in the first inning and an RBI single in the third to account for the two runs.

The Eagles scored three times in the first inning and added two more in the fourth to total five runs on seven hits for the home victory.

In the second game, the bats came alive to enable the visiting Bearcats to take a 10-3 lead into the sixth inning.


Megan Ruiz was busy batting 4-for-4 with a career-high five runs scored. Christine Bowman (3-for-5, 1 run) and Chelsea DeGuzman (3-for-5, 4 runs) recorded three hits each. Donde (2-for-4, 3 RBI) smacked two hits with three RBI.

The Eagles rallied late with four runs in their final at-bat, but
Nicole Flint shut them down for the 11-8 victory against an opponent that competes in the Skyline Conference.

The softball team will return to action on Thursday, April 18, with a 3:30 pm doubleheader at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.
