Softball Post 1-0 Shutout in Game 1, Win a 3-2 Walk Off in Game 2 vs Mount St. Vincent

The softball team posted a 1-0 shutout in the first game and scored three runs in their final at-bat for a walk-off 3-2 victory in the second for an exciting doubleheader victory against the College of Mount St. Vincent on Friday afternoon at Randall’s Island Field #17.

The results improve the Bearcats to 12-12 overall, while the visiting Dolphins drop to 9-21.

In the first game,
Nicole Flint pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts, while Olivia Auman hit a sacrifice fly to score Flint in the 4th inning for the only run of a pitching duel that lasted 66 minutes.

In the second game, the Dolphins managed to score twice in the sixth inning to jump ahead 2-0, but the Bearcats recorded an exciting comeback with two outs in their final at-bat.


Maria Vlahopoulos started the two out rally with a walk and Megan Ruiz singled for two runners on base.

Chelsea DeGuzman reached base on an error and advanced to third base on a throwing error by the catcher. During that hectic play, both Ruiz and Vlahopoulos scored to tie the game.

Toniann Donde stepped up next and smacked an RBI single to score DeGuzman for the walk-off 3-2 victory amidst the team celebration.

Auman earns the pitching victory with a line of seven innings, eight hits, no earned runs, and three strikeouts.

The softball team will return to action on Saturday, April 20, with a 12:00 pm CUNYAC home doubleheader on Senior Day against Staten Island.

The day at Randall's Island Field #17 will also feature a player alumni softball game and honoring the 2013 team seniors.
