The men’s tennis team defeated their fierce rival the Hawks of Hunter College, 5-1, in the CUNYAC Championship Tournament semifinal match played on Sunday afternoon at the U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens.

The Bearcats (12-4) advance to the championship match for the third consecutive year and will play Staten Island for the title and NCAA berth on Thursday, May 2, at 5:00 pm, at the U.S. National Tennis Center.     

The Bearcats ended Hunter’s (6-8) season by winning two of the three doubles for the 2-1 lead.

In the singles, Guy Goren (#3, 6-1, 6-2), Joe Laskowski (#5, 6-0, 6-2) and Samuel Hajibai (#6, 6-0, 6-1) notched victories to clinch the victory to play on Thursday at one of the most famous tennis venues in the world.

Per postseason rules, the match was halted upon the first team winning the fifth point.
