UPDATED: Women's Volleyball Start Season in Upstate NY, Fall to #24 Cortland (3-1), Fredonia (3-0)

The women's volleyball team started their fall campaign on Friday afternoon at the Red Dragon Classic hosted by SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York.



The Bearcats opened play against SUNY Fredonia and suffered a 16-25, 24-26, 18-25 defeat to their opponent from the SUNY Athletic Conference.




Rebecca Peralta, a 2012 CUNYAC First Team All-Star, led the attack with eight kills and collected nine digs on the defensive end. She also contributed three blocks.



Sydney Parks tallied six kills, while Nicole Lockwood totaled 15 digs. McKenzie Davidson had 11 digs and three kills and Crystle Dela Cruz dished out 16 assists.



In the second match, the Bearcats played the weekend hosts and #24-ranked SUNY Cortland. The Bearcats managed to take a set from one of SUNY's best teams, but fell with scores of 16-25, 25-23, 12-25, 14-25.



Peralta and Parks recorded 10 kills each (career-high for Parks). Lockwood was busy again with a career-high 17 digs and Dela Cruz also had a career-high 27 assists.



The Bearcats will resume action on Saturday at 11:00 am against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and 4:00 pm against Lebanon Valley.
