The match against Hunter College was highly anticipated and tonight it lived up to its billing as the women's volleyball team defeated rival Hunter College in five sets to write another exciting chapter in the long rivalry between the two schools separated by a few stops on the #6 Lexington Avenue subway line.

A number of Bearcats put up career-highs this evening to help the team extend their overall CUNYAC (regular season & postseason) win streak to 23 in a row, dating back to 2011.

The Bearcats started on fire by winning the first two sets with scores of 25-22 and 26-24. They hit .361 in winning the tight second set.

However, the visiting Hawks responded by tying the match with convincing 25-19, 25-18 victories to force the fifth set-tie breaker for the second consecutive home match in a row.

The Bearcats during the tie-breaking set led at one point 12-9, but the Hawks roared back to tie it at 12.

Following a timeout, the Bearcats would score the final three points on a kill by
Doris Lei, another kill by McKenzie Davidson, and a superb ace by Nicole Lockwood to clinch match point and send the loud crowd in the ARC Arena into celebration.

Davidson powered the team again this evening by filling up the stats sheet with a career-high 22 kills and 17 digs.
Rebecca Peralta, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, was busy as well with 19 kills, five digs and three aces.

Crystle Dela Cruz keeps setting career-highs, this time with 62, along with 15 digs for a solid effort on both ends this evening.

Amy Sung also had a monster evening in the back with a career-high 29 digs.

Sydney Parks smashed 15 kills with two blocks, while Catherine Cespedes tied a season-high nine digs. Lockwood tied a career-high with eight kills to go along with 11 digs and three aces, which included the winning point.

The Bearcats out-gunned the Hawks with a 70-42 kills advantage to also even their season record at 6-6 overall and 4-0 in the CUNYAC.

The Bearcats will now enjoy a brief break and resume their schedule next Thursday, September 26, with a 7:00 pm CUNYAC match at the City College of New York (CCNY) in upper Manhattan.
