Box Score

The men's soccer team defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 1-0, in a non-conference match played on Wednesday evening at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

The Bearcats scored the lone goal in the ninth minute of play. After a foul just outside the box, the Bearcats set up for a free kick and
Kevin Romero blasted the ball through the hands of the goalkeeper for the lead.

The Bearcats dominated possession most of the evening but could not create the second goal. They managed to build a 13-1 advantage in shots late into the match, but the visitors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) attempted six of their seven shots in the final minutes trying furiously to tie the match.

The visiting Gothic Knights entered the match having played in five straight overtimes, which is an NCAA record, but they would fall short of a sixth OT as the Bearcats' back-line defense kept their forwards from any serious threats.

Helder Correia and Peter DiBona combined for three saves in the team's first shutout of the season.

William Rosales, who was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week for the second straight time, finished with one shot on goal. Romero, this week's CUNYAC Player of the Week, had two shots on goal to go along with his winner.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday with a 3:00 pm match at St. Joseph's College of Patchogue.
