Women's Volleyball Defeats Hunter to Take Over First Place, Win Streak at Six

The women's volleyball team stretched their win streak to six by defeating Staten Island and rival Hunter on Monday at the CUNYAC Multi-Match hosted by Brooklyn College.

The big head-to-head victory over Hunter catapults the Bearcats into sole possession of first place as they improve to a perfect 6-0 in the CUNYAC standings.

The Bearcats started with a sweep of Staten Island with scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-13. McKenzie Davidson led the attack again with 10 kills, while Symone Green had eight kills and Akilah Meulens contributed seven kills.

Amy Sung totaled 19 digs and Crystle Dela Cruz had another double-double (24 assist, 10 digs) to enable the Bearcats to the early morning win.

In the second match, the Bearcats started slow and dropped the first set 25-19, but came back strong winning 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.

Sydney Parks came up big with 13 kills, hitting a torrid .303, while Davidson had another double-digit effort with 11 kills and a career-high 30 digs. Dela Cruz dished out 33 assists and Sung totaled 30 digs for the afternoon victory on Columbus Day.

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, October 15, with a 7:00 pm non-conference match at the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins in Riverdale, New York.
