Men's Basketball Powers Past Gwynedd-Mercy (74-66)

The men's basketball team started the second half of their schedule on a positive note with a 74-66 non-conference home win over the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy University on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats finished the first half by scoring 14 of the final 18 points to lead 36-23 at the intermission.

During the second half, they led mostly by double-digits with the visiting Griffins getting no closer than seven points on three occasions.

Chimaechi Ekekeugbor had a big second half scoring 10 of his game-high 19 points to help pull away for the win. He also grabbed 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

Doyin Isaac had 15 points and Ethan Hamlett 10 points to lead the team to their sixth win of the regular season.

Overall, the Bearcats shot 40 percent (23-for-58) from the field, while limiting the Griffins to 34 percent (23-for-67), which included 3-of-27 from three.

Paul Moore led the Griffins with 15 points and six rebounds.

The Bearcats will return to action on Sunday, January 3, with a 4 p.m. CUNYAC contest at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York.
