John Jay Tops Bearcats in CUNYAC Doubleheader

The softball team lost both ends of a CUNYAC doubleheader to John Jay College on Saturday evening at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island.

In the opener, the visiting Bearcats lost 12-4 in six innings. They scored the first run on a
Nicole Chicon RBI single plating Zulay Scottborgh in the first inning.

The Bloodhounds scored the next seven runs, but the Bearcats battled back with three runs in the fifth inning to cut the score to 7-4.
Kimberly Rodriguez had the big hit with a two RBI single and Jacqueline Gioia recorded an RBI ground out to account for the scoring.

The Bloodhounds broke open the contest for a mercy rule win in six innings with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth en route to 12-4 victory.

In the second game, the Bearcats fell behind early with the Bloodhounds scoring nine runs in the first inning on their way to a 14-4 result in five innings.

The Bearcats scored their four runs with contributions from three different players.

Scottborgh accounted for the first in the third inning with a bases loaded walk. Rodriguez had another two run at-bat with a two RBI double in the fourth inning.
Christina Chin rounded out the team scoring with an RBI double in the fifth inning.
 
The Bearcats will quickly return to action on Sunday with a 12:00 pm non-conference road doubleheader at NYU. The games will be played at Fordham University.
