Women's Volleyball Competes at Montclair State Tri-Match

The women's volleyball team on Friday traveled across the Hudson River to Montclair, New Jersey to compete in a tri-match at Montclair State University.

They suffered a pair of tough losses to Montclair State (17-25, 29-31, 25-21, 11-25) and Gordon College from Massachusetts (25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 21-25).

Against Montclair, Symone Green was the top player with 12 kills, while Akilah Meulens added 10 kills. Crystle Dela Cruz was busy on both ends of the court again with a double-double of 32 assists, 19 digs and four aces in the four set loss to an opponent that competes in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

In the second match against the Fighting Scots from Gordon, the team started strong by winning the first set (25-22), but Gordon from the Commonwealth Coast Conference won the next three for the four set victory.

Meulens was the top hitter again with 12 kills and McKenzie Davidson had 10 kills. Dela Cruz totaled 31 assists and Marisa Bou had 17 digs.

The Bearcats will look to bounce back tomorrow at the CUNYAC Multi-Match hosted by CCNY. They will play John Jay College at 1:00 pm, followed by Lehman at 5:00 pm.
