Volleyball Team Begins Play at Neumann Invitational

The women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Friday at the Neumann Invitational in Ashton, Pennsylvania.

The team started play versus Catholic University from the Landmark Conference and suffered a 25-12, 25-15, 25-22 loss.


Symone Green was tops in the statistics with 11 kills, while Sydney Parks was next best with eight kills.  Akilah Meulens and McKenzie Davidson (13 digs) tallied seven kills each.

Crystle Dela Cruz had another double-double with 27 assists and 22 digs. Amy Sung had 14 digs and Nicole Rios had 13 in the tough loss.

In the second match, the Bearcats lost in four to Rutgers-Camden from the New Jersey Athletic Conference with scores of 20-25, 25-22, 24-25, 22-25.

Meulens had a team-high in the match with 12 kills and Davidson finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 24 digs.
Sophia Shahipour finished with career-highs of seven kills, four aces and 13 digs.

The Bearcats will return to action tomorrow in the second day of the invitational with a 10:00 am match against Widener University, followed by a playoff against an opponent and time to be determined during the afternoon.
