St. Joseph's (LI) Narrowly Defeats Bearcats in Five

The women's volleyball team suffered a heart-breaking five set loss to the Eagles of St. Joseph's College of Patchogue on Wednesday night in the ARC Arena.

The two teams split their first four sets (19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-21) to set up the exciting tie-breaker, but the visiting Eagles pulled out the 15-12 win to walk away with the 3-2 road victory.

Both teams were close in a number of statistical categories in a five set match filled with stats.

The Bearcats had a balanced attack with four players in double-figures in kills with McKenzie Davidson with 14 kills, followed by Akilah Meulens, Sydney Parks and Alessandra Chavez (career-high) with 10 kills each.

Amy Sung totaled 25 digs and Crystle Dela Cruz had 44 assists in the effort against an opponent that competes in the Skyline Conference.

Heather Ferchland led the Eagles with 17 kills in their respective season-opening win.

The Bearcats will return to action during the Labor Day Weekend by competing on Friday at the DeSales Invitational in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.

They will begin the invitational with matches against Rutgers-Camden (5pm) and Washington College of Maryland (7pm).
