The women's volleyball team earned their first win by defeating Rutgers-Camden in the first day of the DeSales Invitational on Friday night in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
The visiting Bearcats swept the Raptors of Rutgers-Camden with scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-15 to begin the holiday weekend invitational on a positive note.
Akilah Meulens led the way in the win with eight kills, hitting .375.
Symone Green had six kills and
Crystle Dela Cruz dished out 24 assists and nine digs.
McKenzie Davidson had 12 digs, while
Sophia Shahipour was a big contributor off the bench with five kills, hitting .556, to help key the victory.
In the second match, the Bearcats lost in three to a much taller in size Washington College of Maryland with scores of 25-10, 25-19, 25-20.
Meulens led the attack again with seven kills, while Dela Cruz dished out 20 assists in the tough loss.
The Bearcats will return to action tomorrow in the second day of the invitational with matches against Gwynedd-Mercy (12pm) and the hosts DeSales (2pm).
