Women's Tennis Knocks Out Rival Hunter

The women's tennis team defeated their rival the Hawks of Hunter College, 5-1, in a rain-shortened conference match on Saturday afternoon at the U.S. National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

With the result, the Bearcats earn a quarterfinal round playoff bye after assuring themselves of a top two finish in the CUNYAC regular season standings.

The Bearcats (6-1, 5-0 CUNYAC) will next play John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a rescheduled home match (postponed Sept. 19 by rain) on Tuesday morning, October 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the U.S. National Tennis Center.

Hayley Bester earned the Bearcats the winning match point with a victory at third singles, 6-2, 6-1.

The Bearcats started strong by winning two of the first three doubles led by Allie Jackson-Hing and Isabel Arias winning 8-1 at first doubles. Brooke Severance and Elizabeth Mak recorded a solid third doubles win, 8-3.
