Men's Basketball Falls to Gwynedd Mercy

The men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season, 91-73, to the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University at the Coaches vs Cancer Classic on Saturday afternoon at Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.

The visiting Bearcats led 26-24 early in the contest, but the Griffins finished the half with a 16-3 run to build a 40-29 advantage at halftime. They kept their momentum in the second half as the Bearcats could only get as close as 55-47. 

The host Griffins (3-0) stayed undefeated by shooting 56 percent (30-for-54) overall, which included a torrid 64 percent (16-for-25) in the second half.

Chimaechi Ekekeugbor led the Bearcats with 17 points and six rebounds. Doyin Isaac finished in double-figures with 12 points and three steals.

Rip Engel led the hosts with 22 points (8-of-10 FT). 

The Bearcats will begin the CUNYAC portion of their schedule on Tuesday, November 29, with an 8 p.m. contest at York College in Jamaica, New York
