Women's Volleyball Sweeps CUNYAC Tri-Match

The women's volleyball team swept York and Medgar Evers in a CUNYAC Tri-Match hosted by Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, New York.

The Bearcats (4-3, 2-0 CUNYAC) began with an impressive victory (25-10, 25-17, 25-16) over York, as they posted 33 kills (.163), compared to 7 (-.097) by the Cardinals.

Freshman
Stephanie Cornwell, a two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week winner, continued her dominant setter play by registering 20 assists to accompany her seven kills.

Akilah Meulens led the team with nine kills, Alessandra Chavez registered five aces, and libero Marisa Bou tallied 14 digs.

Shauncia McClendon led York with five kills.

In the second match, the Bearcats made quick work over CUNYAC foe Medgar Evers, winning in straight sets 25-3, 25-8, 25-14.  

They posted 29 kills (.317), compared to 4 (-.190) by the Cougars.

Meulens led the Bearcats in three categories: kills (6), aces (5), and blocks (1). Cornwell collected 20 assists and Bou registered nine digs.

Kalifa Roberts led Medgar Evers with two kills.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, September 13, at 7 p.m. as they hit the road for a non-conference match at Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey.
