Bearcats Run Past Bloodhounds, 71-55

Shannon Barrett scored a season-high 23 points and Veronica Ganzi had 22 points to lead the Bearcats to a 71-55 victory over the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Monday night.

With the result, the Bearcats improve to 5-1 and stay tied for second place in the CUNYAC standings.

The visiting Bearcats led throughout a majority of the contest at the 'The Doghouse' and built a 34-25 halftime advantage.

However, the Bloodhounds battled back late in the third quarter to get as close as 47-44 on a jumper by Uju Nwaigee.

Barrett took control at this point with two baskets and assisted on another by
Daniela Arias to push the lead back up to 53-44. Ganzi followed with a jumper and Barrett connected on a free throw for a comfortable 56-44 advantage that was enough to hold on to the victory.

Arias finished with an all-around effort of 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Kristen Podlovits chipped in with nine points, seven assists and four steals.

Cassandra Taylor led the hosts with 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Bearcats will continue their conference schedule on Wednesday, January 11, with a 5:00 p.m. contest at Brooklyn College.
