The softball team split a doubleheader against John Jay, winning the first, 11-2, and losing the second, 13-3, on Friday afternoon at the College of Staten Island Softball Complex.
In the first game, the Bearcats were down 1-0 through three innings before erupting in the top of the fourth with five-runs.
Chae Padron got the runs started with a double to left field, with Jessica Gioia and Kaitlyn Vichas scoring. Amba Jagnarine then earned an RBI off a John Jay error, allowing Padron and Kristen Podlovits to bring home the third and fourth runs of the inning.
Cassandra Lagana would then hit an RBI single to plate Jagnarine. The Bearcats never looked back, even scoring three more runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 11-2 win.
Lagana led all players with three hits, while scoring two runs and knocking in three RBI. Padron had three runs scored to go along with two hits and two RBI.
The Bearcats opened the second game strong with an opening three-run inning that would turn out to be their only scores of the game. Juliann Gross and Lagana both scored, and Katherine DelRosario reached home on a wild pitch to go up early, 3-0.
John Jay battled back quickly, however, scoring six runs in their opening at-bat, before putting the game away for good with four runs in the second inning and three in the fourth for the split.
The softball team will play their next doubleheader on the road at the College of New Rochelle on Sunday, April 30, at 2:00 pm.
