Swimming Teams Win CUNYAC Opener Against Staten Island

The men's and women's swimming teams each began their conference schedule on a winning note with victories over the Dolphins from the College of Staten Island on Friday night in the ARC Aquatic Center.

The men stay undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 CUNYAC, while the women improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 CUNYAC.

The Bearcats will quickly resume action on Monday, November 19, with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference meet at the College of New Rochelle.

Women's Highlights

*The Bearcats started quickly out of the gate taking the top three spots in the 200 medley relay with Andrea Gasic, Yee Chung Phang, Asimina Hamakiotes, and Onika George winning first place (2:14.68)

*Gasic, in addition to the winning the previous 200 Medley Relay, also won first in the 50 Free (29.71) and 100 Backstroke (1:17.95) events.

* Phang continues her solid performances from last season by also winning the 200 Free (2:27.75) and 100 Butterfly (1:12.98) events.

* Hamakiotes also won the 100 Freestyle (1:11.48) and was a member of the winning 200 Free relay (2:10.22) final event. 

*Wendy Ambrosio won the arduous long distance 400 Free (5:22.09) and 800 Free (11:26.93) events .

*Amanda Lee won the 200 Individual Medley (2:45.48) and 100 Breast roke (1:25.39) events.

*The team of Hamakiotes, Rewan Abbas, Karina Gotz and Onika George all won the last event the 200 free relay (2:10.22). 
 
Men's Highlights

*The Bearcats started the meet winning the 200 Medley Relay behind the efforts of Erich Moeslinger, Matthew Greenfield, Evan Nikolic and Juan Bedoya in 1:57.93.

*Bedoya also won the 200 Individual Medley (2:20.27) and 400 Freestyle (4:39.54) events.

*Eddy Min took first in the 100 Backstroke (1:08.52).

*David Matskovsky won the 200 Free (2:16.40).

*Nikolic won his second event of the night by finishing first in the 100 butterfly (1:05.66).
