Joseph Braun Named Head Coach of Baruch Softball

Joseph Braun has been promoted to Head Softball Coach, Director of Athletics & Recreation Heather MacCulloch announced today.

Braun spent the 2019 season as the Softball Recruiting Coordinator.

"Joe's commitment to teaching and cultivating all aspects of the student-athlete during their time here fits seamlessly with our athletic department mission at Baruch and the mission and values of NCAA Division III" said MacCulloch.  "I look forward to Joe changing the trajectory of the program and setting the bar high for a championship run for years to come."

Braun becomes the sixth head coach in the history of the Baruch NCAA Division III softball program.

He brings over a decade of softball coaching experience from both the high school and travel ball levels.

"Thank you to Heather MacCulloch and the entire Bearcat family for giving me this opportunity," said Braun. "I look forward to bringing back a successful softball program both on the field and in the classroom. I hope to bring a championship back to Baruch in the next few years."

Joe has also most recently served as varsity coach at Saint Rose High School in Belmar, New Jersey during spring 2018, taking a 4-12 team the previous year to a 7-9 record in his first season to qualify for states. His success at Saint Rose helped spur more interest in the team, bringing more girls to the program in hopes to start a JV program.

He also coached for two years (2016-18) at Toms River North High School Junior Varsity, and prior to that, the New Jersey Fury Elite Club Program's U10, U12, and U18 programs.

One of Braun's most notable experiences is his service for over a decade serving as a Head Coach/Board member in the Toms River Girls Softball League, where he still volunteers to date.

In addition to coaching, since August 2018, Braun works as baseball and softball instructor, for Big League Talent.  He also serves as a coach in their Aces and Lady Aces program, winning a fall championship with baseball, going 11-0.

Braun graduated from the University of South Carolina Spartanburg with a degree in Biological Sciences and subsequently earned his Masters of Education in Biological Sciences from Western Governors University.
