MBB: Bearcats Start Slow, Finish Strong to Defeat York

The men's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak by defeating the Cardinals of York College, 82-71, in a CUNYAC contest on Monday night in Jamaica, New York.

The Bearcats trailed 18-10 just nine minutes into the contest but battled back to tie it at 25 with under six minutes left in the half.

They continued their momentum and scored 16 of the next 23 points to give them a comfortable 41-32 halftime lead.

York started the second half by quickly scoring the first eight points to get as close as 41-40.

Emil Purisic then hit a free throw and Adnan Bajrami scored three of his game-high 28 points on a three to give the visiting Bearcats a 45-40 edge with 16:42 left.

The two teams exchanged leads over the next few minutes, but the Bearcats eventually took control. Down 52-51 with 12:13 left, they scored 13 of the next 17 points to jump ahead, 64-56.

They never took their foot off the pedal and the lead grew to 10 (69-59). York did manage to get back later as close as six (71-65), but the Bearcats scored the next nine points to put the game out of reach for the road win.

In addition to his 28 points, Bajrami finished with six assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Sean Donnellan had 13 points and four assists.

Ryan Graziano scored all nine of his points in the second half.

Donald Hartley, Jr. was tops for the Cardinals with 18 points.
