Bearcats Defeat CSI in Regular-Season Finale, Earn CUNYAC Tournament Quarterfinal Bye

The men's basketball team led by from start to finish and built up a quick 20-4 lead after five minutes en route to defeating the College of Staten Island, 76-63, on Tuesday night in the regular-season finale. 

The lead grew to as much as 18 points during the first half until the Dolphins whittled it down to 14 at halftime (44-30).

The second half started as the first did with the visiting Bearcats quickly building up another lead, this one by 21 points (53-32), after a jumper by George Smyth, Jr. just three minutes into the action.

The Dolphins rallied back to cut the score to 53-43, but the Bearcats responded by scoring eight straight points to go back up comfortably 61-43.

Staten Island again rallied getting as close as seven points, 66-59, to keep things interesting with about two minutes left, but the Bearcats finished off the win by 13 points (76-63).  

While the Bearcats were playing this evening, John Jay defeated Hunter to help the Bearcats finish in second place and earn a bye into the semifinal round next Tuesday, February 25. The full schedule will be available on Wednesday and posted on BaruchAthletics.com and social media. 

Tonight was the final time that these two teams played after a long history that spans over 30 years. The College of Staten Island is transitioning to NCAA Division II and will play in the East Coast Conference next season.

Michael Richards led four Bearcats in the win this evening with 19 points. George Smyth, Jr, finished with a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Andrew Kartalis was tops for the hosts with 18 points.
