Sanborn Three with Two Seconds Left Helps Bearcats Defeat Drew to Win Rose City Classic

Liam Sanborn nailed a long three with two seconds left to lift the Bearcats to an exciting 64-62 win over Drew University to capture the Rose City Classic Championship on Saturday afternoon in Madison, New Jersey.

Sanborn was named the MVP of the weekend tournament after scoring 25 points last night to defeat Farmingdale State and adding 19 points today with the game winner.

The visiting Bearcats led 34-27 at halftime but the second half was much more balanced with each team owning leads.

Drew rallied back and actually led at one point 49-42 midway through the second half, but the Bearcats did not lose their composure scoring nine straight points to take back the lead at 51-49 on a layup by Jehmehl Fair with 6:12 left.

The Bearcats would later own a 59-56 lead after a three by Adnan Bajrami, but Drew stormed back again scoring the next four points for a 60-59 advantage with just 35 seconds remaining.

Mohamed Gueye would connect on a pair of free throws for a Bearcat lead of 61-60 with 22 seconds.

Drew's David Gervais was fouled with eight seconds and connected on both of his free throws to give them the lead at 62-61.

The Bearcats had the final possession (video below) and made it count with Sanborn quickly dribbling up the court and then spotting up for a long three that his two defenders couldn't defend for the eventual winning shot.

A half court attempt by Drew missed to the disappointment of the home crowd as the Bearcats would go on to celebrate the victory.

With the exception of the Bearcats' 83-59 win against FDU-Florham, every other game this season has been decided by three points or less.

Fair had another solid game with 14 points and Emil Purisic recorded nine rebounds.

Howard McBurnie, Jr. led Drew with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
